Manchester girl to be new Dorothy in West End

Danielle Hope from Manchester is the latest West End start to come out of the hit string of BBC talent reality shows, this one entitled Over the Rainbow. At age 18, she is already slated to play Dorothy in the next season of The Wizard of Oz in the spring of 2011 at the London Palladium.

Hope won against fellow finalist Sophie Evans and Lauren Samuels. The finale of Over the Rainbow on Saturday marked the end of the auditioning process for Hope, as thousands attempted to make it onto the series and she made it into the final twenty cut.

Following her acceptance, Hope competed in ten weeks of live weekend shows and faced a panel critique nightly from John Partridge, Sheila Hancock, and Charlotte Church as well as voting from the television audience each week.

The BBC series search for talent has already boosted many successful careers including those of Connie Fisher, Jodie Printer, and Lee Meed.  Hope’s competitors may also now have a more rosy future given that the runners up from previous seasons of the show have also done well on the West End stage.

The upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz will offers new songs written by Andrew Lloyd Webber that compliment the classic score of the film.
