The festival is being planned for the indoor arena with fans being allowed to camp overnight. Girls Aloud are very interested and excited at the prospect of appearing at the festival and they will be performing alongside such acts as Coldplay and the Rolling Stones.

Manager Hilary Shaw has announced that the girls will be touring next year and this festival would be an awesome opportunity for the band to perform and they deserve to be alongside such massive acts as the promoters are looking to book for the event. This would help broaden the appeal of the artists as the girls will fill the role of pop artists whereas The Rolling Stones will appeal to a different audience.

The festival line-up will feature the very latest in contemporary theatre, including productions from the Bush Theatre, Coney and the Battersea Arts Centre (a joint production), Theatre Delicatessen, and the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith.

Tania Harrison, Arts Curator for the Festival, said that the theatre spaces will be moved around this year, including the Outdoor Theatre, which will be moved to the Faraway Forest. The forest is right next to the main tent, the Theatre Arena, which should allow for more connectivity between the two spaces, including ‘pop-up’ theatre and shows that have a closer connection to their environment, that are site-specific.

In the past, the festival has played host to such national institutions as The Royal Shakespeare Company and The National Theatre, but it’s not just about the theatre, Latitude has something for everyone. It also features a major music line-up this year, with old favourites such as Suede, Edwyn Collins, Lloyd Cole, OMD and The Waterboys, plus comedians, such as Phill Jupitus and John Shuttleworth. The event is put on by Festival Republic, the new name of the Mean Fiddler Group.

The 2010 concert date unfortunately fell through when Bono injured his back making him unable to take the stage. Instead, Gorillaz took U2s place as the headlining act.

However, U2 is going to give it another shot to see if second time will be the charm joining already announced Coldplay and Beyonce as the concert headliners for 2011.

The event is set for June 24th and will see U2 take the Pyramid Stage. The news came during the NME Awards on Wednesday night when the Edge announced that the power group will be at Glastonbury this year as he handed out the concert destination the award for best festival.

During his speech the Edge stated that Glastonbury is more about a style of life over a festival and that even though the band did not get to perform he still attended and played a little with Muse after grabbing some fries and a veggie burger.

Organizer for the Glastonbury festival, Michael Eavis, stated that after it turned out that U2 would not be able to play last year they are even more excited that the group is willing to give it a second shot.

The band originated as a made-for-TV group back in 1965, but they sang and frolicked their way into the hearts of more than one generation of fans. Mickey Dolenz, Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith made up the cast of the show, where they performed both musically and theatrically as what John Lennon called “the Marx Brothers of Rock”.

Some of the band’s chart-topping songs include “I’m a Believer” and “Daydream Believer”, written by Neil Diamond and John Stewart of the Kingston Trio, respectively. In 1967 the album “I’m a Believer” outsold the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined, with the number one song for that year on the American charts.

Teenage heart throb Davy Jones is 65 now, and so is Mickey Dolenz; Peter Tork is 69. Their fan base may not be quite the same, but the guys are still believers and they are still the Monkees, and that is just marvellous. The current rumour is that Mike Nesmith has not make up his mind about the tour, and if he does show up it will be a surprise to everybody, maybe including himself. At any rate, tickets go on sale Friday, February 25th.

During the show a pair of silver high-topped sneakers arrived on stage via a conveyor belt, and Usher looks to the heavens and asks if he can have permission to fill the shoes. When or where he say Jackson perform in those type shoes is a mystery. This is followed by a brief dance to Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough and as the concert progresses it is easy to see that he cannot fill those shoes anytime soon but for a lack of trying.

The entire concert just said tribute to Michael Jackson. Before Usher has even sung a song, there were two references to the late King of Pop mentioned. CGI army dance in unison shown on a huge screen are references to the King’s This Is It. Then Usher appears in a space suit as he rises through the floor, all reminiscent of Jackson concerts. The tributes do not stop there but last the whole night.

In direct reference to performances Jackson did of Billie Jean, a briefcase on a stool appears and he takes a medallion from it. He dances in a shiny red jacket another patented Jackson trademark. Even a 2001 hit of Usher’s has choreography similar to Jackson’s hit The Way You Make Me Feel. The Telegraph commented that the concert could have been excellent if the personality of Usher would have shown through.

Usher admits his great adulation for the King of Pop, but even putting that aside the show lacked something. Technically the show has not is great; the dancing was almost perfect. His live vocals, few and far between, were strong and special events outstanding, but there was nothing unique that said, Usher.

The show took place at Albert Hall with the Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince of Wales in attendance.

Other performers included Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Tom Jones, Midge Ure, Mike and the Mechanics, Alison Moyet, Paloma Faith, Mark King from Level 42, and Jools Holland. Tom Chaplin said that it was an amazing buzz to have Queen backing him.

Queen and Midge Ure also performed together on “Seven Seas of Rhye.”All the performers gathered on stage at show’s end to play Queen’s huge hit, “We Will Rock You.”

Paloma Faith admitted to being very hesitant to perform among so many rock legends. She felt that the audience might not be receptive to a newer younger act getting in on the show. Later, she admitted that was not the case, however.

Organisers said that they want to put out the call to a new generation of performers who will be willing to carry on the tradition and continue helping along the charity. The concert was shot for 3D television coverage and hosted by Barry Humphries playing Dame Edna and comedian Rob Brydon.

Back in the 1980s the charity was used to help the country struggle through recession by providing young people with opportunities for work. It is only appropriate that the Prince’s Trust Rock Gala return now.

He claims to have been quite taken with the singer when he saw her perform and would very much like her to join him on stage.

He has also offered Susan Boyle an opportunity to perform with him on his Scottish dates. He has reportedly offered her the opening act, commented that he came across her on YouTube and that she can hit notes that will shock people. There is no word on whether he offered Susan a roast dinner date or a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.

Organisers say that having Coldplay perform a benefit for CRISIS will help attract attention to the continuing homeless plight.

The location is being selected as an intimate setting and rumour has it that no more than 1000 will be in attendance. Nonetheless, tickets will be on sale Friday, starting at 2Pm and may be purchased through www.crisis.org,uk/hidden. Tickets will only be available to persons having a Liverpool billing address.

Their 2007 tour, A Bigger Bang, was the highest grossing concert tour for any band, ever. The Stones are also the only act in recording history to come up #1 on the charts with an album first released more than three decades ago. That would be ‘Exile on Main Street’, re-released in May this year, almost exactly 38 years after its first appearance.

Now the rumours have been confirmed; just this week, Keith Richards told BBC 6 that the group will be back in the recording studio with new material in the next few months, and next year they will take to the road again.

Richards said that they’re ready to squash the speculation that A Bigger Bang was the last tour for the Stones. He said they are all ready to go to work again, and his attitude is defined by a comment he made to BBC: “Who said it should stop and who said when?”

Keith said, “We’ll know when it really comes to an end, with a crashing halt.”
